Just Show Up: How Social Media is Just Like the Gym
“Once I get my degree, then I’ll start my Youtube channel and posting more on social media.”
Ah, the great If/Then Syndrome, oh I was ready to tackle this one with my Revolutionary Empire Builder head-on.
“I’m curious, how have you been able to get your degree?”
“Well...I studied and practiced.”
“EXACTLY. YOU ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH DOING AND PRACTICING AND REPETITION. IT’S LIKE A MUSCLE. YOU HAVE TO STRENGTHEN IT.
Putting content out there on the interwebs is the same thing - it too is a muscle the needs to be strengthened, toned, worked on.
All social media profiles were flabby, small, and weak at one point too.
Those that have grown have grown because the leader chose to strengthen them.”
All the things you want to create in this world take disciplined work.
Notice I didn’t say HARD.
I said DISCIPLINED.
It is a practice, like going to the gym.
And when you’re at the gym, as you go, more and more and more, it starts getting easier and easier.
But, the first practice you build is not your muscles.
It’s the practice of doing the practice.
IT STARTS WITH THE SMALL STEP OF SETTING YOURSELF UP FOR SUCCESS TO JUST DO THE DANG THING.
The same is true for putting yourself and your business out there online.
It starts by lacing up your language and hopping on the elliptical of CREATING the following you desire to have.
Not just sitting around waiting for that next thing…
Next year…
Next degree…
Next client…
Next form of external validation…
To then, finally, have moved forward.
You just have to get into the practice of doing the thing consistently.
ONCE SHOWING UP FOR YOURSELF BECOMES A HABIT, THEN YOU GET TO WORK ON THE REAL WORK - THE STRATEGY OF HONING AND TONING THE MUSCLES OF YOUR MESSAGE.
Just start by showing up.
Even when you don’t want to.
Even when you don’t know what to say.
Even if you think you have nothing good to say.
Just show up.
When I first started teaching Pilates, within a year I was the youngest, highest-paid, most fully booked instructor at the studio.
Why?
Because I was there, day in and day out.
I showed up.
People saw me in my element teaching, training, coaching, working.
When others see you doing that, it builds trust subconsciously.
Having the consistency to just show up, day in and day out, is 80% of the work right there.
SHOW PEOPLE THAT YOU CARE ENOUGH TO BE THERE.
Day in and day out.
Consistently and they will trust you MORE with their business.
Remember, your reign is now.
P.S. When you start practicing showing up online with a strategy and a plan, and you’ve eliminated any of the crappy self-limiting beliefs that prevent you from being ALL of you on the interwebs…
