How Having Kids Can Be Your Greatest Asset to Building Your Dream Business
There have been moments - I will totally OWN it - when I have thought:
"God, it would have been soooo much easier had I really started growing my business without having kids!"
I would have had so much more time.
I could have made so much more money.
I wouldn't have had to struggle so much in the beginning.
And down the woulda-coulda-shoulda rabbit hole, I would go.
Here's the truth of it though...
Had it been my path to build a real, transformative, money-making business with no children, I would have.
It wasn't.
I would have kept going, stumbling and fumbling around in the dark, throwing spaghetti at a wall, pretending to be a #bossbabe with my business cards that said "CEO" on them and my fancy, expensive website, but I wouldn't have had the NECESSITY or the URGENCY to change.
For me, my kids have been my GREATEST motivators.
Declan gave me the spark of COURAGE to get certified in NLP, Time Line Therapy, and hypnosis, even though it wasn’t the right time, I didn’t have the money, and I had to trust that it was the aligned, right next move. (IT TOTALLY WAS!)
Declan gave me the NECESSITY to start making more money now...back in 2016 (and then continue every day since then.)
Declan's impending birth gave me the URGENCY to start putting in systems and structure in my business to be able to close my Pilates studio and go full-time into coaching.
WITHOUT DECLAN, I WOULDN'T HAVE CROWN YOURSELF BE WHERE IT'S AT TODAY.
So when I think of having another baby, I think of the advice my dad gave me a long time ago…
"If you want to get something done, don't ask someone who's got all the time in the world. Ask a busy person, and you'll get it done."
Kids, dogs, life, travel, team, all these require you to uplevel your way of BEING and to put the systems and structures into your life to support yourself on a whole other level.
Yes, they make your life busier.
Yes, they certainly can make your life more complicated.
And, yes, they can be your excuse.
...Or they can be your greatest asset for growth.
And that's what my kids are for me.
My little soul-helpers pull me into a deeper desire to be greater, to make more, to impact more, to serve more as an example FOR THEM.
They are my living, breathing manifestation of my dream. And sometimes it’s a daily decision to CHOOSE how I show up for them (Yes, even for the one that’s not out of my body yet.)
Unlike all the faceless followers (or profile faces), and even unlike the customers and clients who I see regularly week after week on coaching calls, my son is 24/7.
Even when he’s at school, and not in my presence, he’s there.
He’s my mirror.
And he’s how I see if I’m showing up consciously, with joy, with purpose, and for growth...and when I’m not.
I like to joke that I’ve worked with some amazing coaches, who I’ve dropped A LOT of money on, but no coach has been better (or as premium-priced) as Declan.
IT’S EASY TO COMPARE YOURSELF TO SOMEONE WHO IS “FARTHER ALONG” THAN YOU, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY DON’T HAVE KIDS.
It’s easy to use that as an excuse for why you aren’t where you want to be.
But really, that’s their path. Yours is yours.
And honestly, it’s your excuse, if you’re putting the blame on your kids for holding you or your business back.
BLAME IS INSIDIOUS AND IT BUILDS UP RESENTMENT - YOU DON’T WANT YOUR KIDS FEELING THAT!
This isn’t about having kids or not having kids. I’ve seen people blame their partners, their husbands, their jobs, their parents, their dogs for taking time away from them being able to create the life and business that they want.
…Um...didn’t you CHOOSE to have those things in your life.
This isn’t about comparing yourself to people who do or don’t have the same challenges or complexities as you do with your life.
This is about OWNING your choice.
If you chose to have kids before making a million dollars...OWN THAT CHOICE.
If you chose to get married before starting your business...OWN THAT CHOICE.
If you chose to live with your parents so you could save money...OWN THAT CHOICE.
You see...this is WHY ownership is crucial.
BECAUSE IF YOU LIVE IN THE LAND OF WOULDA-COULDA-SHOULDA, YOU HAVE A FALSE VERSION OF REALITY THAT ACTUALLY DOESN’T ALLOW YOU TO TAKE THE LEAP OF COURAGE YOU NEED TO TAKE FROM WHERE YOU ARE.
Imagine a paraglider. You leap from the mountain you’re ON, not the mountain you think you should be on or you could be on, or you would be on if it wasn’t for [FILL IN THE BLANK.]
Had you done it another way you would have done it. But you didn’t.
How can you OWN the choices that led you to this place, to what is?
So that you can get to where you desire to be.
Remember, your reign is now.
