Freedom ain't this.

Uncategorized Sep 15, 2020

“Why did you want to become an entrepreneur?” I asked.

“Freedom,” my client said to me.

I’ve been working with high-achieving entrepreneurs and creators for four years now, and there is one reason, bar none, why someone is crazy enough to venture into the world of entrepreneurship, to create a business and life on their terms.

FREEDOM.

Freedom financially.

Freedom to travel the world.

Freedom to have a business that supports that.

FREEDOM TO DO WHAT THEY WANT WHEN THEY WANT WITH WHO THEY WANT.

Then why is it that so many entrepreneurs box themselves into the very cages they looked to escape from?

They brag about barely sleeping.

THEY THROW DOWN HOW HARD THEY WORK, HOW LONG THEY WORK LIKE THE P*NI$ PRODUCTIVITY PARADIGM I TALK ABOUT ON THE PODCAST.

They wear busyness like it’s a badge of honor.

Is that freedom?

To work away 10 hours a day behind your computer, suffering at doing all the things, and yet barely making traction?

To miss out on time with your kids so you can plow forward doing fuck-all on social media?

No!

Struggling entrepreneurs build their own cage of busyness around them, wearing a mask that says “FREEDOM,” when, really they are just muzzling their genius and not speaking up for their worth.

Because deep down, you don’t want freedom, you want control.

It’s the illusion of the ego to seek control.

Call it a lie of the devil, should you like to be dramatic about it.

THERE IS A SENSE OF CERTAINTY IN BEING BUSY - ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH ACHIEVERS.

There is a sense of controlling your “destiny.”

Real freedom...true freedom...it’s TRUST.

I once had a client who told me, she would rather control her own demise than be surprised by it.

She had chronically self-sabotaged in every past business because of this desire to CONTROL.

If I was a therapist, of course, we could trace it back to her childhood traumas growing up and spiral down that rabbit hole...but I prefer to look ahead. And, seriously, I know my lane.

As a coach, we worked together on rebuilding that foundation of TRUST with herself and the TRUST in God/Source/Universe, that it would have her back no matter what happened.

EVERY RELATIONSHIP, INCLUDING (AND ESPECIALLY) THE RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE WITH YOUR BUSINESS, REQUIRES TRUST.

Otherwise, you’re in an “it’s complicated (see my Forbes article for that problem).

TRUST THAT YOU WILL DO THE WORK, AND TRUST THAT YOUR BUSINESS WILL ITS WORK RIGHT BACK.

Now, of course, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a fair share of work to be done.

You have to show up.

YOU HAVE TO UNLEASH YOUR CREATIONS OUT INTO THE WORLD.

You have to be seen and heard and connect for people to support you.

If you aren’t showing up to do the RIGHT work - your SOUL WORK - and instead are just busying yourself with piddling around doing God-knows-what on the internet, that ain’t creating the trust.

Busy-ness is just laziness of the Soul.

SURRENDER TO FEELING RADICALLY UNCOMFORTABLE - LIKE BUNGEE JUMPING INTO THE UNKNOWN AS YOU CREATE, TRANSFORM, EVOLVE.

For that is the only path to true freedom, trusting that the Universe can and always will catch you and bounce you up from whatever your fears are.

Trust that you can adapt.

Trust that you can pivot.

TRUST THAT YOU CAN FIGURE ANYTHING OUT.

As you cultivate that unshakable certainty within yourself, then, and ONLY then will you be truly free.

Remember your reign is now.
