13 Reasons Why I'm Thankful for Your Mistakes

Uncategorized Nov 22, 2018

It was this time two years ago that I found out...I was pregnant. And it was in that moment that I started to freak the fuck out.

You see, I wasn’t ready. And yeah, I know no one is really ever ready for the craziness of parenthood. But I REEEEEEALLLY, wasn’t ready.

I was unfulfilled teaching Pilates at my own studio...

I’d taken a side job teaching Pilates at a studio where I also was feeling unfulfilled...

Spike and I had separated ourselves from my parents while my dad got sober...

I was doing coaching in my car for $100 a month!

And I’d had this expensive blog, called Crown Yourself, that Is always wanted to turn into a coaching business, but I didn’t think anyone would take me seriously with all the sparkle. (LIES!)

I felt so alone.

BUT THEN, AS THE DIVINE WOULD HAVE IT, I WASN’T.

A little Being was growing inside me. A little being was dependent upon me for life.

BEST. THING. EVER.

IT WAS LIKE DECLAN WAS GROWING IN THE PLACE MY FEAR AND SHAME USED TO LIVE. I USED TO BE SO EMBARRASSED BY MY MISTAKES, AND MY MESS, AND MY FUCK-UPS AND FAILURES.

But, when I found out I was pregnant, it was like something clicked inside of me. Because suddenly, I knew the truth. That everything happened exactly as it should have. And all those failures, and all that mess was now my message.

The holidays can be a complicated time.

So whatever you’re going through, know this: this too shall pass. And it will make you so much better, so much brighter, so much more compassionate. You will figure it out, just as you have figured things out in the past. You will continue to figure things out again and again and again.

THAT’S WHY ON THIS THANKSGIVING, I WANT TO SHARE WITH YOU MY 13 REASONS WHY I’M GRATEFUL FOR YOU.

  1. I am grateful for your mess and mistakes for they have allowed you to speak and connect from a place of empathy and understanding.

  2. I am thankful for your mistakes for they shaped you into being the beautiful diamond are now (and you are continuing to be sharpened, shaped, and forged).

  3. I am thankful for your failures for they forged your tenacity and grit to keep getting back up, to keep pushing forward, to keep going for your dream, no matter what.

  4. I am thankful for your fuck ups because those choices have led you to make better ones, and ones that are better still.

  5. I am thankful for your craziness, to not listen to the naysayers, to not follow what the crowd is doing, but rather  to listen to your own internal guidance that has never (and will never) steer you wrong.

  6. I am thankful for you facing your fears of starting small because they have taught you to be scrappy, resourceful, and creative.

  7. I am thankful for every single person who doubted you for they showed you how you need to have more belief in yourself.

  8. I am thankful for your weaknesses, because you are self-aware enough to shine a light on how to turn them into your greatest assets.

  9. I am thankful for those who have judged you, because they allow you to be the light of compassion.

  10. I am thankful for the people in your life who grow you, stretch you, and challenge you to be better than your excuses.

  11. I am thankful for the pain you went through for it taught you to release, forgive, and let go.

  12. I am thankful for those who supported you all along.

  13. And I am thankful for you, for blessing me with your presence and being a part of my world.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING.
