Welcome to the seven circles of business hell. Okay, I had to do the voice. I can't be married to a voice actor and not do the voice.
I wanted to do this podcast episode because I was writing a post, and I have had so many conversations—and I mean so many conversations—in the past three weeks with top six- and seven-figure business owners: friends, clients, colleagues. And all of them had similar experiences.
And I can't tell you how relieved I was when I went to the James Fund. It's a group for six-, seven-, and eight-figure business women. I was speaking and doing their final crowning coronation—something I’ve done for two years now and been a member of for four.
At this particular conference, when you reach the income level of $250K+, you can attend higher-level masterminds. You could choose between two sessions: one on PR and marketing (which was packed), or one on bookkeeping and HR. Guess which one your queen chose?
Yeah, I chose the "boring" one—bookkeeping and HR.
And you know what? In that room of million-dollar businesswomen, the common theme was a cashflow crunch.
[03:00 - 06:00]
In our agency, we faced a $40,000 cash flow opex issue. It was our own "hard knocks college" year in business. Rerouting pricing structures, operational models that didn’t work. And it sucked.
I nearly cried hearing other women share the same struggles. We went around sharing our bookkeeping issues. And here’s the thing: it’s not about revenue. On social media, you see revenue numbers everywhere, but no one talks about what's left over.
And I’ve done it too. I posted those big flashy revenue numbers back in 2018 and 2019. It’s like playing a role you grow out of. Necessary for expression then, but not something I’d repeat today.
So many entrepreneurs get discouraged because they’re not making $60K in their first month. They think something must be wrong.
But here’s the truth: revenue is queen. Cash flow is king. And profit? Profit is emperor.
[06:00 - 09:00]
That next level of business growth isn’t about revenue—it’s about sustaining it.
If your operational expenses exceed revenue, what’s the point? Your business should support your life, not vice versa.
And sitting there, hearing everyone echo this shame and scarcity, I realized: this is a normal growth stage. It’s just not talked about.
85% of businesses don’t make six figures. So once you're past that, the rooms get smaller, and the shame gets bigger.
That’s when I knew I had to break down the Seven Hells of Business. Not to scare you. But to mirror back the patterns, the initiations, and the ego deaths we all go through as leaders.
Because business (and parenting) are the two fastest spiritual development paths out there. You WILL meet yourself. And your shadows.
Let’s go.
